Alison Vollmer, a certified Yoga Instructor, has developed a chair yoga class ideal for the residents at Cottingham. Her half hour exercise classes are held each Saturday morning at 10:00 am. Our residents receive many benefits from Yoga. Some of them include: increased flexibility, muscle strength and tone, improved respiration, energy and vitality!
Our Cottingham Carpet Cruisers have collectively walked over 16,000 miles. It doesn’t matter if it’s raining or snowing, our residents walk the hallways of Cottingham saying “hi” to neighbors as they rack up the miles! With each milestone they reach they are recognized. Walking has many advantages for seniors such as, improving arthritis symptoms, reducing anxiety, depression and adds to overall heart health among other things. Go Carpet Cruisers!
Our residents love to compete and Wii bowling is just one of the ways they have fun doing it! Even though it is a lot of fun, Wii bowling has other rewards, such as, improves attention and reaction time, both physical and cognitive stimulation, improvement in knowledge acquisition and retention and significant increases in positive emotions. Not to mention improvement in core stability and balance! Our Will Bowling Team meets once a week and also competes with other communities.
This seems simple and maybe not worth the time BUT stretching can help seniors offset decline in the flexibility of joints and help you to stay independent and active.
Windsor Court resident, Mary Sergent, teaches an art class. Class participants work with water colors, pastels and sketching. From beginners to advanced artists, this class offers a little something for everyone. Art has its compensations too. It is a way to express yourself, and improve communication; adults who participate in the arts are less likely to experience feelings of loneliness and isolation. Art classes can also increase intellectual stimulation, exercise the brain and promote memory health. Amazing isn’t it? We now also offer sketch classes, canvas classes, card crafting and jewelry making classes on Tuesdays at 2:00 pm!
On most Tuesdays the Cottingham bus heads to restaurants around the Greater Cincinnati Area for our weekly lunch outing. Destinations in the past few months have included Cooper’s Hawk, Ron’s Roost, Milanos, Mecklenburg Gardens, Wildflower Café, Tousey House, and more. We are on a quest to find Cincinnati’s best lunch deals and are having a great time exploring the many, many restaurants in the Greater Cincinnati area! What are the benefits to the Lunch Bunch? Great company, laughter and a good time!
Music fills the Fireside Lounge twice a week. These venues offer a variety of musical styles – from swing, big band, classical, blues, and even operas! Socialize with your neighbors, sit back, relax and enjoy the music.
Our residents enjoy a Wine and Cheese Social every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon at 3:30 pm. Complete with an assortment of appetizers, cheeses, vegetables and beverages. These socials are a great way to enjoy some time with friends, catch up on the days events, and unwind before heading into dinner.
The residents gather in the Game Room for a friendly game of penny poker. Poker players enjoy playing seven card stud where the betting limit is small enough not to break anyone’s bank. Ante up!
Have fun and get a work out at the same time during our SPLASH Classes! Call for dates and times! See you at the pool!
Okay, so you think “chair volleyball?” Well, let me tell you, our residents at Cottingham have more fun than you could imagine! And they are really competitive! A fun game that is played with a beach ball, chair volleyball is great for upper body mobility and joint flexibility. Improves hand-eye coordination, muscle tone and keeps your mind active. If you want to remain active mentally and physically, chair volleyball is right up your alley. Have fun, make friends, and be active! We even compete with other communities! Go Team Cottingham!
